2012 SDC finalist Yvonne Luong Showcases her Amex Passion Project

Supima Design Competition 2012 finalist Yvonne Luong’s talent has not ceased to flourish since her participation in the contest. The SDC saw her create Sailor Moon and Aurora Borealis-inspired, one-of-a-kind eveningwear collection.  Since then, the Madison, Wisconsin native has not only continued to make delicate, extraordinary design but she has also stayed in the public eye. Her latest triumph comes through her participation in the American Express Passion Project. After a five day, nonstop sewing fest to create her little sister’s prom dress, Luong posted the creation on Reddit and became a sensation, drawing admiring feedback from new fans of her work and attracting the attention of the famed credit card company. For the American Express Passion Project, which the company calls “a celebration of a new generation of makers, creators and mold-breakers,” Luong collaborated on two videos. One documents her love for design, the famous prom dress story and her infectious smile. The other is a light, accessible tutorial on how to easily dye fabric three different ways for various, stylish results. Supima congratulates Miss Luong on her successes and can’t wait to see all her future accomplishments.
